Super excited to share this session today because it means I’m finally getting to share a little place that means a whole lot to me. Despite growing up in Ojai for 17 years, this is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to shoot an engagement session there, and it was just as amazing as I always imagined.
While Katie and Dano are getting married in wine country later this year, they opted to do their engagement session somewhere different. They trusted me wholeheartedly to pick a spot for them, drove over an hour to get here, and hiked in without complaint. And while I love this job for all the new places it brings me, I’m not sure anything beats the feelings of getting to bring my couples somewhere completely new to them. Somewhere that I grew up exploring and know almost like the back of my hand. We spent the evening climbing over the rocks, laughing a lot, and running back down the trail to catch the last bits of pink on the mountains.
While you wouldn’t know it by looking at these photos, Katie and Dano were people who considered themselves not so great at couples photos and were a little nervous for what an engagement session might entail. And while I think it goes without saying, they clearly killed it. A couple Fireball shots and some fun prompts later and they were asking if we could do it all over again. And that feeling means more than anything to me as a photographer. My number one goal is to always make sure my couples are comfortable in front of the camera and are having a damn good time.
So here’s to making engagement photos fun again, exploring new places, and of course, Fireball.
